Erik Deutsch, ExcelPR Group

  • Erik Deutsch spent nearly a decade working with large PR agencies and boutique firms before launching ExcelPR Group in 2004. Over the years, he has created award-winning campaigns for all sorts of clients, from start-ups to large, publicly-traded companies (with industry-specific expertise in healthcare, life sciences, digital media and entertainment).

An early adopter of online public relations tactics, Erik helped launch Interactive PR News in 1995 as the first national newsletter on new media for professionals in the marketing communications field. He continued to serve as managing editor after the newsletter was acquired by communications industry news and research provider Phillips Business Information.

Since 1997, Erik has taught at UCLA Extension’s Department of Journalism, Public Relations & Fundraising, where he currently teaches a course titled “Best Practices in Social Media for the PR Professional.” He’s also active in PR industry affairs and advocacy, serving as board member and 2010 vice president of the Public Relations Society of America, Los Angeles Chapter (PRSA-LA).

Erik earned a masters degree from USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and an undergraduate degree in economics from UCLA. In his spare time, he likes playing the drums… despite his near total lack of musical talent. He also enjoys an occasional joyride in his ’65 Ford Falcon.
